About Be A Better Pup

Getting a dog and is an amazing experience but it is also a huge responsibility. Training them can be intimidating and overwhelming but it is a must. I personally went through this as I trained my 3 dogs, starting with my first one Leo, 7 years ago. People often ask me if I train dogs for a living and if I could train their dogs but to me that is not the right approach. To me, the owner is the center piece. Because no matter how much you trained the dog if the owner doesn’t maintain this by working on these commands on a regular basis what the dog learnt will fade away. It’s like any skills you learn if you don’t practice it disappears. Another great thing about learning how to train your dog yourself is the bond and the trust you will build together; training is fun and stimulating for your dog.

Last but not least, by learning how to train your dog if one day you decide to get another one you’ll know the basics and you’ll be able to do it again. Give a man a fish versus teach a man to fish…

Let’s have fun!

JB

Swiss native turned Texan I’ve been around animals (mainly dogs and horses) for more than 20 years between France, Switzerland and now Texas. I’ve always found fascinating how we can communicate with animals even if we don’t speak the same language.

Current owner of three dogs and a cat I’ve always taken care of my dogs training because there is no better way to learn how to understand each other. To me that is an essential and crucial part of building a bond and a true friendship. Dogs (and pets in general) are not an add-on to the family they are family. Because I love animals and I think the best I can do for them is help other dog owners be the best owner for them I decided to start this journey of building this website where all the content is available for free, no membership nor subscription. I’ve read and watched a lot of different methods and approaches relative to dog training and I used what worked best. That’s what you will find on this website.

Animal are helpless and without our guidance they can’t be what we expect they will be.

The Crew

Please meet the ones without who that adventure wouldn’t have started! Leo the Lab, Chester the Golden and Pumpkin the Aussie. You will see in our videos that they do have really different personalities and character. Leo is the “Old Man” since he was a puppy, he has always been very serious and wise. When we got Chester he was that big brother but also that patriarchal figure that will put you back in your spot if you misbehave.

Chester is a Golden… (a field Golden to be exact) I guess that explains everything! For Golden owners they know, for the other ones we can sum it up by “no brain, all fluff”. He loves humans sometimes more than his fellow dogs. At the dog park he will first go with the dogs’ owners. We sometimes joke that he’s a human trapped in a dog’s body. He doesn’t play too much, he will go fetch 4 or 5 times and then he will keep the toy with him since these humans can’t make up their minds…

Pumpkin she’s energy itself! She is so smart, catches on to new tricks within minutes and she’s bossy.

So here you have Leo the Spartan, Chester the Poet and Pumpkin the Psycho!
