Whole Chicken And Leg Quarters, Green Cabbage And Sweet Potatoes

Here is a recipe I use with a lower fat (compared to this one) content because the main ingredient is the whole chicken and I supplement with leg quarters.

Warning!
For this recipe you will need to blend the bones with the meat. Make sure you have a good blender

Sweet potatoes are packed with Beta-Carotene which is great for eye health, these Beta carotene are turned into vitamin A which is great for immune system, heart health, skin and coat. Plus it’s high in fiber.

– 1 Whole Chicken
– 5 Lbs or Chicken Legs Quarters (1/2 a bag)
– 2 Sweet Potatoes
– 1/2 Green Cabbage

Peel the sweet potatoes. You can bake them in the pan but I found it easier to boil them with the cabbage in a pot. Plus you can use the broth to mix the chicken instead of plain water. You don’t have to blend the veggies. In that case dice them into chewable piece for your dog.
Add some water in the pan with the chicken, about 4 cups, for the cooking. Set the oven at 365F and cook for about 1h45min.

Let it cool off and then bend it. My blender can handle a whole chicken but with the Vitamix 5200 you might want to split the chicken into 2 and add 375mL (about 1-1/2 Cup) of water at a time. Blend it until you get a thick you get a paste.

Then you can pour it into different containers for the week. I usually put the Salmon Oil and the Brewer’s yeast at the bottom. Green cabbage is high in Vitamin K. Serving size is about 650 gr for my dogs and it’s about 1’100 calories. I adjust the quantities according to the season. They will be a bit less active during summer in Texas as it’s quite sizzling… Colder months are the ones they eat 650gr.
I always add 1/2TBSP of salmon oil (here) and some spice either cumin, ginger or turmeric and some brewer’s yeast (here).

For these quantities, Salmon oil included that will bring the meal per day at about $2.20 for in between a 55 lbs very active dog or a 65 lbs active dog.
